The Samson™ Japanese Damascus Chef Knife is a cut above the rest! Made with 67 layers of steel folded together in the traditional Damascus style that originates from Japan, its unique handle design and sharp blade make it perfect for any Chefs.

 

Steel Type: 

This beautiful 8" Chef Knife is crafted from Japanese VG10 steel and layered with 67 layers of Damascus Steel. These layers are folded and forged, creating a beautiful pattern and ensuring long-lasting sharpness.

VG10 steel is produced in Japan and is highly appreciated by Chefs because it offers the hardness of carbon steel but the corrosion resistance of stainless steel.

 

Why Is It Important To Have A Sharp Knife?

  • A sharp knife is safer. A sharp blade is predictable. When it strikes or is drawn across the food's surface, it will not slip. This makes it easy to control how the blade moves through the food, giving you control over your chopping or slicing. A dull blade will slip, which makes control difficult and increases the risk that it will slip into your finger. With a dull knife, it's only a matter of time until you slip while applying more pressure.
  • A sharp knife works better. Sharp knives need less brute force to cut than dull knives. Less brute force means less damage to the food, which you can easily see by looking closely at the cut. A sharp knife helps in maintaining the texture of your ingredients. Delicate ingredients, like herbs, will look fresher for longer if you slice through them cleanly, whereas a dull knife will crush more of the cells surrounding the cut, which ultimately accelerates wilting and discoloration.
  • But more than this, a dull knife slows you down, while a sharp knife makes prep easier and more enjoyable.

Handle Color:

Due to the uniqueness of the process used to create the knife handles (just like the Damascus layer pattern), no two knife handles look exactly alike. That’s why we don’t have an option to select the handle color. Rest assured though that you will get a unique knife handle that is both aesthetically pleasing and satisfactory. 

Each handle goes under a special manufacturing process called stabilization and during which the wood is filled to the core with colored resin. This process not only yields a unique pattern of colors but also provides better durability than traditional wood. Because high-quality stabilized wood absorbs very little water, it is less prone to warping and cracking.
